litigation financing. Whether we are engaged to consult on specific aspects of a

Chairman of the Executive Board of Robins Kaplan) and Ray Tellini (hedge fund and
private equity executive with significant experience managing litigation related
investments) bring an uncommonly sophisticated approach to securing funding on
behalf of litigants. Marty was featured on the cover of Law Dragon (Issue 17) as one of
the leading lawyers in America while Ray was most named to Law Dragons’ “Global
100 Leaders in Litigation Finance” from 2021-2023. Before founding Tromba, the
Partners have successfully invested in excess of $100 million of financing for litigation,
arbitration, enforcements, asset recovery, and related strategies.

Tromba specializes in single case and law firm portfolio funding, leveraging
relationships with domestic and international third-party funders. They
assist with preparing financial models for law firms and navigating funder
preferences across various litigation types. Tromba's executives prioritize
funders and present credible cases for early consideration in the funding
process.

Tromba has relationships with an extensive network of domestic and international third
party funders. Within that network are third-party funding capital providers with whom
Tromba has relationships for funding of single cases and portfolios, as well as loan
facilities up to $200 million. These sources include traditional third-party funders, family
offices, hedge funds, credit funds and high net worth individuals.
There are a multitude of third-party funding capital providers (Funders”) with different
investment preferences and criteria and an increasing amount of capital available in the
market.
However, as funders reject a large percentage of opportunities that they review,
claimants are wise to engage consultants such as Tromba to help navigate and direct
opportunities to those funders most likely to be interested, as well as effectively package
the opportunity from the perspective of the funder in order to anticipate issues and
reach the ‘interest’ stage as expeditiously as possible.
For example, many funders have distinct investment preferences with respect to:
- Domestic or international jurisdictions,
- Complex commercial litigation and arbitration
- Intellectual property
- Mass tort and other class actions
- Anti-trust
- International arbitration including vs sovereign defendants
Based upon their experience as Investment Committee members, the Tromba
executives are able to prioritize which funders to approach and present a credible case
for serious consideration at the earliest stages of the quest for funding.
Law Firm Portfolio Loans
Tromba also assists with the preparation of detailed, integrated financial models
covering cash flow, balance sheet and profit & loss, for the law firm business as a whole;
including analysis of the current contingency/conditional fee book and a schedule of
details of each type of claim (Commercial, Insolvency, Professional Negligence, Mass
Torts etc), and negotiation with existing capital providers, before we conduct a formal
process with the selected funders.
